THE WINE TOUR
Location
Montepulciano
Duration
8
Perched on a hilltop in southern Tuscany and not far from Siena, Montepulciano is a medieval town of rare beauty that is definitely worth visiting. The landscape, the rich historical and cultural background, the traditions, and, of course, the wine make this area a must for all wine lovers. The hilltop town’s glorious past and the bond between the terroir of Montepulciano, its history, and the Vino Nobile wine are timeless guarantees of quality and authenticity. This truly is a “noble land.”
The history of Montepulciano has ancient roots: historical and archaeological evidence states that wine has been produced in this area since the Etruscan times. At the heart of this great wine is Sangiovese, a varietal that, in this terroir, finds its full expression. Vino Nobile is made, in fact, with one of its clones, Prugnolo Gentile, which gives the wine its characteristic plum scent and color.
During our tour, we will visit some of the key wineries in the area, including Podere Casanova, La Combarbia, Podere Casa al Vento, Salcheto, Bindella, La Braccesca, Borgo Tre Rose, and Talosa.
