THE WINE TOUR
Location
Montalcino
Duration
8
A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Montalcino is a small village in the province of Siena. It combines the fairy tale aspects of a medieval village with the inimitable flavors of its wines: Rosso di Montalcino and Brunello. The wines produced in these areas are historic, longevous, and collectible, a fact that is recognized and valued worldwide. Evidence of grape growing in this area dates back to Etruscan times. The preciousness of this wine stems from a happy combination of elements, but mainly because it is produced in an area that is as small as it is varied, with a range of microclimates and subzones.
Montalcino stands proudly within the Val d’Orcia nature reserve, which extends all the way to the sea in the south and the Apennines in the north. Its soils offer the perfect climate and conditions for the Sangiovese grape, allowing the growers to produce wines with longevity and complexity.
We will visit some of the area’s leading wineries during our tour, including Val di Suga, Terre Nere, Mastrojanni, Banfi, Matè, Poggio Landi, and San Polo.
